Pets Across USA traveling from Boise, Idaho to Chehalis, Washington on August 13, 2007. The Pets Across USA bus was escorted by a motorcycle escort to the building site for the Almost Home no-kill animal shelter in Chehalis, Washington. 21 out of the 22 dogs and puppies were adopted into loving forever homes. The partnership between Pets Across USA and F.O.L.C.A.S was a great success!
Story from Mitzi
I was thinking about some of the memorable moments, for me, on our trip to Washington . I wanted to tell you about a special time. We were at a rest stop. The puppies were in their exercise pen and we were walking and exercising the adult dogs. The trees had gotten taller and you could smell pine in the breeze. People, probably mostly vacationers, had flocked to the animals and the bus. We were chatting, enjoying the visits, enjoying the break from driving and playing with the dogs. An older woman walked up to me. She had one of those carefully styled silver gray hair styles that, to me, represents a different era. She may well have been in her 80’sor 90’s. She had to take small, slow steps, but she made her way on her own. She had been watching for a while and when she walked up, she asked me if we were taking donations. I told her yes, we could use donations. She handed me a dollar, folded three times, worn and soft with age. That dollar probably meant more to her than $100 would mean to me. I thanked her. And I want to thank her again, for the donation and for the gift she gave me by choosing me to share that moment with.
